Religious Education Coordinator

Position Summary

St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Community in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is seeking a visionary leader to manage our religious education programs and help us find new, meaningful ways to engage today’s families in their faith journey. The religious education coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination and administration of the parish religious education program, sacramental preparation, and family engagement.

The coordinator works collaboratively with the pastor, parish staff, and school leadership to foster a strong culture of faith formation rooted in the teachings of the Catholic Church. The ideal candidate will bring fresh ideas, strong leadership, and a collaborative spirit to build a vibrant, engaging, and sustainable program that draws families deeper into the life of the Church.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee the parish religious education program
  • Recruit, train, and support catechists and program volunteers
  • Plan and implement sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation
  • Maintain student records and ensure compliance with diocesan policies
  • Communicate regularly with families and provide resources for faith formation in the home
  • Collaborate with parish and school staff to support parish-wide faith formation efforts
  • Assist with parish liturgical celebrations and seasonal programming (Advent, Lent, etc.)
  • Ensure adherence to diocesan Safe Environment requirements
  • Coordinate parish-wide initiatives, including Bible studies and small groups, guest speakers and formation series, and marriage enrichment and family life events

Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
  • Knowledge of Catholic teachings and catechetical methods
  • Experience in religious education, ministry, or Catholic education preferred but not required
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and volunteers

Work Schedule

  • Flexible schedule with regular evening and weekend responsibilities
