Confirmation at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Community

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you…”
– Acts 1:8

Confirmation isn’t Catholic graduation—it’s a beginning. A commissioning. A bold “yes” to the adventure of faith.

At St. Anthony of Padua, we believe Confirmation is a powerful and personal encounter with the Holy Spirit that strengthens young people to live as intentional disciples. It’s about more than checking a box—it’s about stepping into the mission Christ has for them.

Who is it for?

Confirmation preparation at St. Anthony of Padua is a two-year journey that begins in 7th grade and concludes at the end of 8th grade. It’s open to all youth in our parish—those who attend St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School and those who participate in our Religious Education program through Ignite.

No matter where students go to school, we walk this journey together as one community, growing in faith and preparing to receive the grace of the Holy Spirit through this powerful sacrament.

How does preparation work?

Students prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation in one of two ways:

  • St. Anthony of Padua School students receive formation through their religion classes.
  • Religious Education students prepare through IGNITE, our middle school youth ministry program.

Throughout the two years, teens grow in their understanding of the faith, experience prayer and service, and build meaningful relationships with their Confirmation sponsor and peers. Whether it’s asking tough questions, diving into Scripture, or learning what it really means to follow Jesus, our goal is to walk with them every step of the way.

When is Confirmation celebrated?

For students beginning sacramental prep in Fall 2025, Confirmation will be celebrated in May at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Grand Rapids. The specific date is determined by the Bishop and will be announced each year by the Diocese.
