Students, staff to view solar eclipse on April 8

In the Grand Rapids area, there will be a partial solar eclipse of about 94% coverage on Monday, April 8 according to the National Solar Observatory’s eclipse map. St. Anthony of Padua students will celebrate the special Solar Eclipse event starting at 2:40 pm. Students will receive a special pair of glasses and a galactic treat!

Teachers will take the students outside for about 15 minutes and then return inside for dismissal. This eclipse will last three hours and sixteen minutes, with optimal viewing at 3:11 pm of 94% in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Important details for parents:

  • Families are invited to meet their student(s) no later than 2:55 pm and stay through 3:11 pm for the optimal viewing time.
  • Parents MUST fill out the permission slip (linked below) to have their student meet them outside, dismiss from the walking path area, and bypass normal dismissal procedures.
  • If you are following the second bullet point above, please fill out this online form no later than the morning of Monday, April 8.
